100th Anniversary of Sanderstead WI
It is our 100th birthday this year and we have received this certificate of recognition from the NFWI on 15 March 2021. We will now be having a celebration next year for our 101st birthday. However, we cannot let our centenary pass without remembering it in some way and so members have been asked to jot down a specific memory of this exceptional year so we can create a Year Book.
We are also be creating a commemorative tablecloth with the names of current members embroidered on it.
Presentation to our out going Co- Presidents
At our AGM in November 2021 the Members of Sanderstead WI presented our two Co- Presidents, Linda and Sue with planted containers to thank them for all their work in the last two years and ensuring contact was maintained with as many of us as possible during the lockdowns of 2020/1.
We are very grateful to Margaret Q for taking on the Presidency until 31 March 2022.
Our entry for the Christmas Tree Festival
Our President, Margaret, sits next to our Christmas tree in the photo opposite. Many members produced the decorations for the tree and our theme was a celebration of 1921, the year Sanderstead WI was founded. Baubles depicted, amongst many things, the identification of Vitamin D, the discovery of insulin, the introduction of car tax, and the birth of a number of famous people. Charlie Chaplin also flew into Croydon Airport to visit London and promote his film the Kid in this year .
The tree will be displayed at Sanderstead Library until Christmas.
Our Christmas Party 1 December 2021
For the meeting on 1st December the members were invited to a Christmas tea party. They all enjoyed the tea and the afternoon was rounded off by musical entertainment provided by Steve Robbins whose rhythmic rendering of popular songs soon had the members on their feet tripping the light fantastic. It was a most enjoyable afternoon.
